Becoming a PFIGA member

PFIGA Membership Structure

PFIGA PROVISIONAL MEMBERSHIP

Provisional Membership status indicates that the member has declared that they hold the necessary certificates, licences, safety management protocols and insurances to operate as a professional guide without having provided evidence to PFIGA of these documents.

Under PFIGA's Constitution, Provisional Members have all rights, privileges and obligations of Full Members of the association except that Provisional Members have no voting rights at meetings.

PFIGA FULL MEMBERSHIP

Full Members have affirmed that that they hold all necessary certificates, licences, safety management protocols and insurances required, and have demonstrable experience as a professional fishing guide or fishing instructor.

Full Members have provided evidence to PFIGA of:

  • First Aid Certification,

  • A Safety Management System or Standard Operating Procedures documenting their approach to a safe guided fishing experience, and

  • Public Liability Insurance

 All PFIGA Members are bound by the PFIGA Code of Practice.

PFIGA acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land and water on which we guide. We acknowledge and pay respect to elders past and present, and to emerging leaders.

Customer Assurance - Under the PFIGA Code of Practice, PFIGA members commit to a range of standards and behaviors, including encouraging and promoting the conservation of the environment while demonstrating an authoritative knowledge and understanding of the natural history and heritage of our fisheries and surrounds. PFIGA guides also commit to observing, fostering and promoting all fishing regulations, and offering the highest stands of professional services to our clients. Most importantly, PFIGA members – through our commitment to professionalism in what we do - are trusted by our clients to deliver a great fishing experience.

Authoritative Assurance - PFIGA member’s commitment to the environment and to delivering a professional guided fishing experience for our valuable clients services is recognised by a range of local and state government entities, who use PFIGA membership as a positive indicator or standing requirement when issuing some of the permits required for fishing activity and tourism related activities. PFIGA utilises this acknowledgement from government to lobby on significant matters for the professional guiding industry, and has formal affiliations with key recreational fishing representative groups.

Fishing License Exemptions – Some State Fishery Authorities now require affiliation with associations such as PFIGA as a prerequisite before issuing Fishing Licenses.
